Commodore's Comments for March

Spring is in the air, the Robins have arrived, the birds are singing and the temperatures have finally risen above freezing. That’s the way it was last weekend. Today it’s cold (still above freezing) rainy, windy, and just plain miserable, but Spring is still in the air. Tonight we move the clocks ahead, and next weekend Spring arrives along with the Bill Leidel Invitational at the Heckscher MYC. If you haven’t signed up for this event contact Jeff Urquhart at wavydog@verizon.net today!! After that we will be sailing Saturday mornings at Lake Ronkonkoma.

With the start of our season just around the corner, now is the time to make sure that your servos and radios work. There is nothing worse than arriving at the Lake, expecting to have a good time sailing, only to find that you have a problem with the electronics, sheets, or sails. It may still be early in the season, but a rainy, miserable day, like today, is great time to spend in the workshop making last minute adjustments.

Next weekend, several of our members will be at the Bill Leidel Regatta so there will be no sailing at Lake Ronkonkoma. The following weekend (March 27) will start our season with practice racing and tuning of our 36’s. April 3rd will be the official start of the 2010 season and we hope that most skippers will be able to make it. As usual racing will start at 10:00 am at the Brookhaven Beach on the south side of the Lake.
