Commodore's Comments for June

We are two months into the season and the sailing has
been exhilarating to say the least. Most days we have
sailed with shortened rigs due to winds in the 15 to
20 mph (13 to 17 knots) range. We’ve been lucky in
the fact that we have not been rained out on
Saturday. The weather prediction for many Saturdays
called for rain, but we managed to sail and get home
without any problems.
So far, the highlight of the season was watching one of our skippers chase his boat across the Lake. I did this a year ago, and let me tell you, it is no fun!! However, he did make it back in time for lunch.
Posted on the website are our YTD results for the various classes that we sail. You can see your standings in the various classes that we sail as of May 31st. I intend to publish this every other month in the newsletter, but you can see the most recent results here on the website every week.
The month of May has been an active month for Long Island Club Invitationals. On May 3rd our club hosted an Invitational for Marbleheads, and on May 17th the Eisenhower Park MYC hosted an invitational for Traditional 36’s. I’m quite sure that those who attended these events had a good time regardless of their placement.
We will be entering our summer months where the winds are usually lighter, but the competition is just as good. If you haven’t been to the lake recently, it’s time to come. The work around the house can wait a few hours. You deserve a break.
Our next club meeting will be June 11, at the Whiteheads’. Our usual meeting time is 8:00 pm. Bring along any questions you may have and remember that your boat should be sailing with very little adjustments being made. If this is the case, your boat is well tuned. If you’re fitting the rudder constantly or having trouble coming about, your boat may need some adjustments. Remember CE, CB, and CG must all be in line for the boat to be balanced and sail well. Everything on the boat should be able to be adjusted with a minimal amount of effort.
Take care and I will see you on the water.
