Even though the first weekend of March is cold,
spring is just around the corner and our sailing
season is about to begin. Attached to this month’s
newsletter you will see our club roster, and at this
time I would like to welcome Dan and Jane Glyn, and
Ray Golden as new members to the LakeSide MSC.
Welcome aboard from all our members and if you need
any help, don't hesitate to call anyone.
At our last meeting we modified the race schedule in order to try and promote our members attending the Invitational's hosted by other clubs. Years ago this use to be a great way to meet members of other clubs and see how boats were built and raced by other people associated with this hobby. You may think you’re a hotshot skipper in your own club until you meet someone else in another club. It's a great learning experience and it's interesting to sail on different ponds where the winds may be very shifty compared to what you experience in your normal area. Scott Spacie has informed me that the Heckscher MYC will be hosting the "Bill Leidel Invitational Regatta" on March 22, 2008. This is a great race to go to and most clubs haven't even started their sailing season yet. If you can make it there is more information here. This race is for Marblehead’s (50/800) models and the cost is FREE.
This year all members must watch our sailing schedule. The rotation of boats from weekend to weekend stays pretty much the same, but the location changes between Lake Ronkonkoma and the Town of Babylon Pond. We will do our best to keep everyone informed on a regular basis. If there is a change we will let everyone know a few days in advance.
The LakeSide MSC and the Eisenhower MYC will each host two Invitationals. One will be in the spring and the other will be in the fall. Check the race schedule closely and mark your calendars.
The LakeSide MSC started a Winter Frostbite series that is currently running for 6 weeks. I believe they have completed 4 days of racing and are trying to complete the series before our racing season begins in April. Once this is complete we will be having practice days at Babylon. The first official race will be at Lake Ronkonkoma on April 5, 2008 for 36's.
Hopefully our members put the winter to good use and have made any needed repairs that were put off last season. Remember, racing begins in 6 weeks and we hope to see everyone at the Lake.
