Winter has past, Spring is here, and we celebrated
with a great Invitational held by the Heckscher MYC.
Fourteen skipper’s were present at this event
representing the four area clubs. Tom Clark took
a fourth place finish, which made LSMSC proud of
his accomplishment. The competition was keen,
the racecourse was good, the director kept the
fun moving, and everyone had a great time. What
a way to start our season!
Our practice races are complete and our racing season begins April 5th at Lake Ronkonkoma. We start the season off with 36’s this year and will alternate boats every weekend. Please keep the race schedule available at home because every so often we swap ponds. See the race schedule below for April’s activities.
While racing, we try and follow the rules as well as we can. While we don’t usually have a race director assigned for each weekend we try to follow the rules as best we can. Early starts are not allowed and are corrected by going around one of the buoys and restarting; no dip starts are allowed. Touching a buoy (windward or leeward) is not allowed; this is corrected by doing a 360-degree turn. You may touch the wing buoy providing you pass it on the correct side. If you miss it, you must come back and round the buoy properly. We try to cover some of the rules at our meeting on the second Wednesday of the month.
Our next meeting will be April 9, 2008 at 8:00pm at the Whitehead’s. Please bring any questions you may have concerning rules or things that may have happened while sailing. Also, any projects that you may be working on and would like to share with our club members will be of interested to all.
Please note above that on April 26, we will be racing 36’s at Babylon Pond.
See you on the water.
