The
LakeSide Model Sailing Club is a non-profit
organization devoted to the building and sailing of
model yachts. We sail at Lake
Ronkonkoma, Long Island's
largest lake!
We sail three different classes of model yachts: Soling One Meter, 36/600, and Marblehead. We also sail vintage wooden model boats. To learn more about the boats we sail, check out our Boats page.
All of our boats use radio-controlled technology to operate the sails and the rudder. There are no engines or propellers, the boats use the power of the wind to move through the water, just like full-size sailboats.
Visit our Scuttlebutt page to find out what's going on with our Club and the world of model yachting.
During the warmer months, or whenever the water is soft, we sail competitive races. Take a look at our Racing Schedule to find out where we'll be sailing next. To see the latest race scores, visit the Tally page.
Before you can sail a model yacht, you have to build one. Some boats come as complete kits and are quick to put together. While others are more challenging and take a bit more time and craftsmanship. Whatever your skill level, we have a boat for you, and we keep an online Logbook of useful information to help you build the fastest boat on the water. If you prefer, you can purchase a boat by looking through the classifieds on our Scuttlebutt page. Our online Logbook also has a collection of racing and boat tuning tips to maintain your competitive edge.
Being a member of our Club entitles you to a copy of our monthly newsletter highlighting racing activities, boat building activities, new racing rules, future racing events, and much more. In addition to our sailing activities at the lake, members meet one evening a month to discuss various boating activities, have a cup of coffee, a piece of cake, and good old-fashion camaraderie. To learn more about being a member of the crew, sail over to our Membership page.
So stop by the pond to meet us and try your ability at sailing, or come to one of our monthly meetings and see what goes on in the world of Model Yacht Racing.
If you have any questions or need directions, don't hesitate to email the Commodore at awhitehe@optonline.net.
Nearby model sailing clubs include the Eisenhower Park Model Yacht Club and the Heckscher Model Yacht Club.
